While agriculture is still South Dakota's number one economic driver, recreation comes in a strong second. With the mighty Missiouri right next door, boating and fishing are are two favorite pastimes.
Gregory County is perhaps most famous for its ring-nick pheasant. Hunters from across the nation make our many lodges their destination for pheasant, and also deer, turkey--even mountain lion adventures. More and more, travelers are hunting with their camera along with their gun, and for them, we have scenic valleys, magnificent vistas and an unending horizon.
An estimated 7.85 birds per mile makes every hunt successful. Statewide, South Dakota hosted nearly 200,000 hunters with an average harvest of 11.7 birds each.
